Job Overview:
The Snow School Director oversees the operations and administration of a ski and snowboard school, ensuring that all lessons, programs, and activities are conducted efficiently and with the highest quality of instruction. This role involves managing instructors, developing and promoting programs, and ensuring a safe and enjoyable learning environment for students. The manager is responsible for both the business and instructional aspects of the snow school.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Management:
- Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of all ski and snowboard lesson programs (group lessons, private lessons, beginner to advanced).
- Ensure that programs cater to a wide range of ages and skill levels, from children to adults.
- Develop and implement new programs or special events to attract new students and retain existing ones.
- Monitor the effectiveness of lessons and programs and make adjustments to improve the overall experience.
- Instructor Management:
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and manage a team of ski and snowboard instructors.
- Provide ongoing training and professional development to ensure instructors deliver high-quality lessons.
- Monitor instructor performance, provide feedback, and address any issues or conflicts.
- Manage the assignment of instructors to lessons, ensuring optimal scheduling and proper matching of students to instructors.
- Customer Service:
- Provide excellent customer service, addressing student and parent inquiries, concerns, and feedback.
- Ensure that students have a positive and safe learning experience, regardless of their skill level.
- Respond to customer feedback and complaints, resolving issues quickly and efficiently.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure that all snow school operations follow safety protocols, industry standards, and resort regulations.
- Implement and enforce guidelines for equipment use and instructor certification.
- Ensure that all ski and snowboard lessons promote safety awareness and risk management.
- Financial & Administrative Management:
- Manage the financial performance of the snow school, including setting pricing for lessons, managing budgets, and tracking revenue.
- Manage administrative tasks such as payroll for instructors, scheduling software, and lesson bookings.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to promote snow school programs, including creating promotions and packages for lessons.
- Collaboration with Resort Operations:
- Work closely with other resort departments (ski patrol, lift operations, guest services) to ensure smooth coordination between snow school activities and resort services.
- Participate in resort management meetings and contribute to broader resort initiatives and events.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in managing ski or snowboard instruction programs, preferably in a resort or snow school setting.
- Strong knowledge of ski and snowboard instruction techniques, equipment, and safety protocols.
- Experience in managing and developing a team, with strong leadership and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize.
- Financial management experience, including budgeting, pricing, and performance analysis.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to resolve conflicts and ensure a positive guest experience.
Preferred Skills:
- Certification as a ski or snowboard instructor (e.g., CSIA, CASI or equivalent. Level 3 preferred).
- Experience working in a seasonal or resort environment.
- Familiarity with ski resort operations and the broader snow sports industry.
- Marketing and promotional experience.
Working Conditions:
- Seasonal, full-time.
- Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and evenings during the ski season.
- Physical requirements include the ability to ski or snowboard, as well as working outdoors in cold weather conditions for extended periods.
